Description:
The project aims to create a hub for marine image analysis, enabling citizen scientists to contribute to marine research and conservation efforts. It focuses on raising awareness about marine biodiversity and the impact of human behavior on deep-sea environments.
The project will develop:
- learning materials,
- a user-friendly citizen science tool,
- and an online platform for collaboration and knowledge sharing
Activities:
- Developing online courses on marine awareness and agency, covering various deep-sea habitats and the effects of human activities
- Creating a citizen science tool (BIIGLE Lite) for image and video annotation, allowing volunteers to contribute to research data analysis
- Establishing feedback mechanisms to ensure data quality and facilitate interaction between scientists and citizen scientists
- Developing a handbook for researchers on marine image analysis for citizen science
- Building an online platform (e-classintothedeep.eu) to host project resources, facilitate collaboration, and disseminate information
Results:
- Enhanced awareness and understanding of marine biodiversity and conservation among citizen scientists,
- Valuable contributions to marine research through data analysis by citizen scientists,
- Increased collaboration and knowledge exchange between researchers and the public,
- A sustainable online platform and resources for continued engagement in marine citizen science
