Call for Mentors

The Athens Lifelong Learning Institute invites you to participate in the Mentor Training seminars, which will help support young people facing justice issues and encourage the adoption of positive lifestyles and behaviours. The seminars are organised in the context of the Mentor+ project.

The Mentor+ project

The project is being implemented in six European countries (Belgium, Portugal, Greece, Romania, Ireland and Italy). The project partners are organisations with extensive experience in the field of support and social inclusion of vulnerable social groups, with a particular focus on young people at risk of exclusion and marginalisation.

The project aims to support young people in conflict with the law through mentoring and support actions. In the context of the project, the partners developed a methodology for mentoring and a training programme for mentors, as well as the manual for the optimal support of mentors using an application to facilitate the mentoring process.

In order to achieve this objective, the project is organising a series of training seminars aimed at people whose work or role (prison staff, trainers, social workers, lawyers, psychologists, etc.) brings them into contact with young people in conflict with law.

Mentor Training

The role of a mentor is essential in informing and supporting young people in conflict with law in the process of their personal empowerment and reintegration into society, highlighting their positive aspects, educational and professional opportunities.

Mentor Training aims to equip mentors with skills to help them navigate the juvenile justice system, address problematic behaviors, and provide support tailored to the individual needs of youth, including accessing resources and fostering trusting relationships.

The trainings are based on the Mentor’s Handbook, which is designed to meet the needs of prospective mentors who will be mentoring youth and to facilitate their work. In particular, it includes both the theoretical background on the mentoring process and on the specific characteristics of the target group, as well as practical exercises and tools that can be used by the mentors during the support process.

Training seminars

The training seminars organised in the context of the Mentor+ project aim to train volunteer mentors who will be responsible for mentoring young people in conflict with law. The trainees will participate in the training and will have access to the training material both asynchronously (online and in their own time) and through synchronous training, which will be implemented in the near future.

The training modules will include, among others, topics such as:

  • Mentoring: communication, setting boundaries, mentoring tools
  • Profile and challenges of the target group
  • Emotional control, needs and management strategies
  • Development of social skills and healthy relationships
