MICRO FOREST SCHOOLS PROJECT

The Micro Forest Schools project is developing a new teaching curriculum and eLearning course to promote biodiversity and climate action in primary schools. The project is coordinated by Vejle Municipality in Denmark and involves partners from across Europe.

 

The project aims to support the EU Biodiversity Strategy 2030 and the Education for Climate Action. It will do this by developing a new teaching curriculum and eLearning course that combines biodiversity action and community involvement in primary schools, through the establishment and co-ceation of micro forests.

The project will also develop an online platform to host the teaching curriculum and promote online exchange between teachers and pupils. The project is expected to have a significant impact on the way biodiversity and climate action are taught in primary schools. It is also expected to raise awareness of the importance of biodiversity and climate action among pupils, teachers, and the wider community.

Δραστηριοτητες:


  • Developing a teaching curriculum and program for primary schools:nThe curriculum will cover topics such as biodiversity, climate change, and the Miyawaki method of micro forest planting.  The program will also include training for teachers on how to implement the curriculum in their classrooms,
  • Designing and setting up an online platform:The platform will host the teaching curriculum and promote online exchange between teachers and pupils,
  • Training primary school teachers:  The training will cover the teaching curriculum and the online platform,
  • Testing the curriculum and e-learning course with local schools: The testing will be conducted in Denmark, Greece, and Italy,
  • Evaluating the results of the project:The evaluation will assess the impact of the project on pupils, teachers, and the wider community,
  • Formulating recommendations for the implementation of the project will be based on the results of the project evaluation.

Αποτελεσματα:


  • An innovative teaching curriculum and eLearning course on how primary schools can promote green skills and shared solutions to urban biodiversity, by involving local communities in the school activities,
  • Capacity building of primary school teachers, pupils, and local communities in relevant green skills and key competences,
  • Direct impact through the establishment of micro forests as an example of awareness raising and action taking for urban biodiversity,
  • Increased awareness of the importance of biodiversity and climate action among pupils, teachers, and the wider community,
  • A change in attitudes and behaviors towards biodiversity and climate action among pupils, teachers, and the wider community,
  • The establishment of micro forests in schools across Europe,
  • The development of a network of teachers and schools committed to promoting biodiversity and climate action.
