Deep Discovery is a 30-month Erasmus+ funded project that aims to promote ocean literacy in schools by bringing the wonders of the deep sea to the classroom.
Deep Discovery is an Erasmus+ funded project that aims to cultivate a profound understanding of the deep sea among high school students and foster the next generation of ocean stewards. Through a comprehensive suite of educational resources and interactive tools, the project offers a unique and engaging learning experience.
Five meticulously designed online courses will guide students through an exploration of diverse deep-sea habitats, showcasing the fascinating biodiversity and ecological processes that occur within these hidden realms. Furthermore, students will have the opportunity to actively participate in ongoing scientific research using the innovative BIIGLE PARTY citizen science tool, enabling them to analyze real data and contribute to meaningful discoveries.
To support educators in implementing these exciting learning experiences, Deep Discovery provides comprehensive handbooks and fosters a vibrant online community where educators and marine researchers can connect, collaborate, and share resources. By promoting inquiry-driven learning and hands-on research, Deep Discovery seeks to inspire a lifelong appreciation for the ocean and its profound importance to our planet.
Δραστηριοτητες:
- Developing and piloting five online courses for high school students. Each course will cover a unique deep-sea habitat and will be translated into partner languages,
- Developing a new citizen science tool called BIIGLE PARTY. This tool will allow students to conduct deep-sea research and contribute to ongoing inquiries,
- Creating a professional network for educators and marine researchers. This network will provide a forum for discussion and collaboration,
- Developing two handbooks. One handbook will be for educators and will provide guidance on how to use the BIIGLE PARTY tool in the classroom. The other handbook will be for marine researchers and will provide guidance on how to engage with schools and participate in citizen science projects,
- Hosting a 3-day Learning, Teaching, and Training Event (LTTR) in Vilanova i la Geltru, Spain. This event will bring together educators and marine researchers from across Europe to pilot the project’s courses and tools,
- Organizing national multiplier events in each partner country. These events will disseminate the project’s results to a wider audience.
