The Athens Lifelong Learning Institute invites you on Wednesday 20 January 2020<\/strong> at 17.00<\/strong>pm.<\/strong> in an open online dialogue on the issue of deconstructing gender representations and stereotypes in the new media and pop culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is with great pleasure that we invite you to participate in the European eMerge project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the new media there is not an equal and pluralistic representation of genders.  Very often the message of inequality is broadcast, reflecting and institutionalizing the unequal gender relations and perpetuating stereotypical representations of women and the LGBTI* community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The project eMERGE (e-Media Education about Representations of Gender) aims to strengthen teachers’ skills in media literacy in order to deconstruct in partnership with the students the representations of gender stereotypes rooted in the media\u2019s practices  and in “pop culture”. The eMerge project is funded by the European Commission programme Erasmus+.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The eMERGE project is conducted by the consortium of four educational partners in the field of media literacy: Media Animation (Belgium), Mediawise Society (Romania), University of Palermo (Italy) and Athens Lifelong Learning Institute (Greece).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The eMERGE project is dedicated to teachers who will actively participate in the project as co-designers of the methodology, as well as the beneficiaries of the training and the tools to be developed. Students will also benefit from educational activities and actively participate in the production of media campaigns within their schools and local communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first exploratory practice “Know the culture of the media used by your students”, in which we ask for your active participation, consists of the implementation of a pedagogical strategy in order to explore and analyze the most popular communication practices of students today. Through the implementation of this strategy you will be supported in order to better understand the culture of media use by your students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the seminar on the first exploratory practice you will be informed about a series of activities between which you can choose and incorporate into the plan of your own course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
